The Apostles – Part 1

Posted: February 13, 2012 in Foundation on Apostle/ Apostolic, The 5 fold Ministries

Looking from different definitions of Apostles, I came up with the terms “Sent one”, “One Who is sent”, “An Ambassador”. The term Apostle is derived from Greek word (Apostolos), meaning “One who is sent”.

In the Kingdom of God, we may call it “Apostle of Christ Jesus”, as Paul called himself. It is not self appointed, but appointed by God, it must be by the will of God because the One who sent (Jesus Christ) must sent him or her. They are not sent by an organizations or Missionary board. They could be working under those things, but the very thing that make them an Apostle is being sent by Christ Himself, they must have a revelation in their heart or have a sense of being sent by God and not man.
Paul said to Ephesians,

“Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God”. (Ephesians 1:1)

So, it is not by the will of man, but by the will of God.

Apostles are first called by God to serve Him, we find that Jesus called His Disciples and they followed Him, only later were they sent. Apostles are called to be a “Sent One”, and they are sent from Heaven to represent Christ and His Kingdom.

People may or may not welcomed them, that does not mean they are not Apostles (Sent by God), that does not mean they are less or more either, because they are not the “Super person”, they are human beings, but the thing is that they are “Servant of Christ to represent Christ and His Kingdom, sent by Christ”. Jesus Christ was an Apostle, sent by the Father, in John 20:21 we find that Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you”, some listened to Him and welcomed Him, while some don’t welcome Him. He was even persecuted, but that does not mean that He was not sent, He was even nailed on the Cross to death, but still He was sent by the Father God.

But He (Jesus) said to them, “I must preach the (“good news” added in front in some translations) kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent for this purpose. (Luke 4:43) (New American Standard Bible NASB)

So, looking at the heart of Jesus Christ, the heart of Jesus Christ here focused mainly on “The Kingdom of God”.

I believe that the Number 1 purpose and heart of an Apostle is the Kingdom of God, because that is where they receive their assignment and are assigned from Heaven to be an Ambassador of Christ’s Kingdom, given authority in their hands from the King Jesus to represent Christ and His Kingdom. Their main job and motivation must be the Kingdom of God. They don’t just stay in the Kingdom of God, but they work for the Kingdom of God, and they are motivated and moved by/for the Kingdom of God. Their main purpose too, is to be an Ambassador of Christ and His Kingdom, which is to represent the Kingdom of God.

Even the main purpose of Jesus Christ being sent by the
Father was to preach the Kingdom of God as we find in Luke 4:43. (We must also remember that Apostles are not necessarily preachers, there must be many Apostles who are not gifted in preachings, preaching itself is another gift, but Apostles must be motivated for the Kingdom of God as a “Sent One” (Ambassadors) on this earth).

Apostles are said to have the starting and finishing anointing, and I believe that is true. But, looking at another verses of what Jesus Christ has predicted about them, He also said,

“Because of this, God in his wisdom said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’ (Luke 11:49) (NIV)

So, it shows that they are not ‘Super Spiritual’ people. According to this verse, there are possibilities that man called them ‘didn’t finish’, they could be doing a good job and be a ‘good and faithful servant’ from the side of God and not man.
Paul said,
For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2Tim 4:6-7)

Paul state that ‘He has finished the race’, then later He was martyred, we don’t know weather other disciples finished, but all of them except Judas and John, they all seemed to die in Martyr, they might not seemed finish in the sight of men, but to God they must be “Good and Faithful servants”.

The point here is that, we cannot make a traditional point weather they are Apostles or not from those points, Apostles are human beings living on this earth like everyone else, they can also be fighting many Spiritual Battles as well in their works for the Kingdom of God, even to the points of death as we find in the Bible (speech of Jesus Christ in Luke 11:49). If that is the case, i believe that that is not the main point or the best point to judge weather people are Apostles or not Apostles.

The main point and no. 1 of all what makes an Apostle ‘Apostle’ is that, Apostles are sent by God to Represent Christ and His Kingdom on this earth, and i believe that if that is the point, it must also be the main thing that motivates an Apostle, “For Christ and His Kingdom”, “A heart for the Kingdom of God”. As Jesus said that the purpose He was sent on this earth is to preach the Kingdom of God. Jesus Christ was motivated and moved by/for the Kingdom of God.

For Christ and His Kingdom,
