ADVANCING THE KINGDOM OF GOD: FROM PASTORAL ONLY TO APOSTOLIC.

Posted: April 2, 2012 in Advancing The Kingdom, Foundation on Apostle/ Apostolic, The 5 fold Ministries, The Kingdom of God

First of all regarding Pastoral and Apostolic, we really need Pastoral functions in our churches, ministries and the Body of Christ, especially around the Northeast India, it is not only the Apostolic and the Prophetic that we are lacking, but also Pastoral types of functions are really lacking where Biblical Counselings are done with dealing issues and past life, and we need to grow in that. I believe generally we lack much in Pastoral counseling, even though we are community type of culture, as we grow in Pastoral Counseling and build a Pastoral communities in our culture, we also are to move from Pastoral only to Apostolic cultures. We also cannot just dwell in the Pastoral communities as well even though our communities may need healing of their lives, because the Spirit of the Lord is pushing our region to the Apostolic as well.

And regarding the word church, when we write “Church”, it could be ‘a church’ or it could be the Body of Christ, it can be relevant to both, even for many ministries and for the Kingdom of God.

When we have no more heart for advancing the Kingdom of God, we became a dead church or a dead culture. Generally, in the context of the Northeast Indian believers of Jesus Christ (the Body of Christ), also can be relevant to some other places around the world, but especially for the Northeast Indian context, when the members, the environments and the Body of Christ is more consumed with having degrees, having better church buildings, having a better materials just for the purpose of “NICE” and not for the purpose of Kingdom advancements, then the church slowly went toward being a Dead Church, there will be no life in that church, nor will there be heart for the Kingdom of God and its advancements.

More than a Church of uniformity, keeping the status qua and preventing the ancient days tradition systems, the church where there are good discussions in meetings, where leaders can be questioned, where people boldly share their opinions, where you do not mind to live on the edge for the purpose of Kingdom Advancements, willingness to change systems and ways of functions as needed, on the other hand where the Holy Spirit and the moves of God are valued, and the characters of God are valued to be applied as well, those churches or cultures will advanced the Kingdom of God, and there will be more advancements of the Kingdom of God, there will be visions, there will be actions.

That also does not mean that the characters and natures of God are neglected, the characters of God are not an exception for a believers lives, they are a ‘must’ to cultivate, develop, grow and be applied.

Confrontations for the purpose of Kingdom advancements:

Confrontation is Biblical and is Godly when they are needed, especially for the purpose of Kingdom advancements.
We find that Paul confront Peter in Galatians 2:11-14 –

When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong. Before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray.
When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter in front of them all, “You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs? (Galatians 2:11-14)

Here Paul confront Peter, this is because Peter was not relating to people according to the customs that were not sins. For example in today’s world, we have the drug addicts, we have people roaming in the streets, we also have many good people and youths who are also Christians but do not attend church and services, people who usually stay at home and use media, who do not usually go to services and so on, born and brought up in different places, or having different cultures because of different kinds of environments, works, brought up and other things.

For example, most of the churches in the Northeast India are British culture, especially for Mizoram. We also have all types of culture just in one culture, all different types of people, and they have their own types of customs, if we are to relate to these Gentiles, we cannot force them to follow our customs, we cannot try to make their outward looks in our image, that is why to advance the Kingdom of God is also a servant-hood, so different types of people needs to be who they are.

So, even if anyone, anyone came to the Lord or we brought them to Christ, it is not our job to try to change their outwards to our outward looks, that’s another point out here.

But the main point that I’m trying to draw out from here is that – you can question leaders, you can confront people when needed, even though personally I do not agree with always confronting, but I agree with confronting when needs are there. Peter was one of the main leader from the early church, He had been with Jesus, has followed and served Jesus Christ way before Paul even got conversion, Peter already served the Lord while Paul was a persecutor. Also Peter and Paul were in different ministries, Peter was among the Jews, and Paul among the Gentiles, they were having different mission, different focus and different ministries, but Peter needs some confrontations, so Paul confront him in front of all the people that others may not practice what Peter their leader did.
Jesus also confront the Pharisees and the Teachers of the law when they were in wrong, Jesus was not one of the leader of the synagogue, He had no positions, was just one of the member who also teaches sometimes but with authority, but Jesus confronted them. The whole chapter 23 of Matthew was about Jesus confronting the Pharisees and the Teachers of the laws, He not only confront them, but He even teaches and told the crowds and His disciples about what the teachers of the law and the Pharisees were doing.

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: (Matthew 23:1)
In, Luke 11:37-54, we also find Jesus confronting the Teachers of the law and the Pharisees.

Paul’s purpose of confronting Peter was for the Advancement of the Kingdom of God, one main point of Jesus purpose in confronting the Pharisees and the teachers of the law was for the purpose of the advancement of the Kingdom of God.

Some people wants to cover up everything, and seemed good from the outside, and those are not bad, there are times those things are needed, but of course not always. We need to go from those types of pastoral only to apostolic, where we really have a desire to advance the Kingdom of God and do not even mind to speak out and also work to bring the changes that are needed in the Kingdom of God for the advancements of the Kingdom of God, the things that are and can be hindrances for the advancements of the Kingdom of God. God has given us an assignment to advance His Kingdom on this earth.

When a church is really consumed with advancing the Kingdom of God, it cannot keep the status qua for generations or for a whole generation. But today, there are many churches and the Body of Christ seemed to be living a lot in the status qua, especially around the Northeast India, not just for 5-10 years, but for generations to generations there were no real change. In most cases, this is because; we are not consumed enough with advancing the Kingdom of God.

Advancing the Kingdom of God is not about how many new born babies were born in the church that added the members in the generation or generations, nor it is about taking people from other denominations, or about competing with other churches and denominations in materials and uniformities, but where Jesus is worshiped as King, is worshiped as Lord, and the Kingdom of God is advancing.

But, it is also totally okay if a church is advancing the Kingdom of God and other church members where there are no advancements are encouraged to be members of your church. But, without competition of course, and advancing the Kingdom of God does not always mean numbers of people, it is not political, and the main goal is just to advance the Kingdom of God.

Advancing the Kingdom of God is not political, even though Governments are for the Kingdom of God:

When Jesus first sent out His disciples, they went out 2 by two, so it is not political, rather it is about the task given by God, it is about fulfilling the assignments of God. A less number that advance the Kingdom of God work much more rather than the amount of numbers that do not advance the Kingdom of God.

Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits. (Mark 6:7)

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. (Luke 10:1)

Sometimes, to pioneer or to advance the Kingdom of God, the needs may be 10 workers, other times 5 workers, other times 2 or 3 according to the purpose and the mission and the starting works requirements. Pioneering is not a political thing, but it is about fulfilling what God has Commissioned or assigned to do. Doing the Mission impossible, doing them with the God of possible, penetrating with the power of God.

God’s advice to Zerubbabel when He was laying the foundation and building the temple:

Above all what we have written, there is one thing that the Lord really put importance, it is good to remember what the Spirit of the Lord Almighty had said to Zerubbabel through Zechariah, when Zerubbabel was laying the foundation of the temple and building the temple in Zech 4.

So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.

“What are you, O mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’”

Then the word of the Lord came to me: “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.

“Who despises the day of small things? Men will rejoice when they see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.

“(These seven are the eyes of the Lord, which range throughout the earth.)”

(Zech 4:6-10)

So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.  (Zech 4:6).

LET US ADVANCE THE KINGDOM OF GOD WITH THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD.

Pastoral Ministries are working well in many areas of the Northeast India and that is good, for example in the areas – serving one another, coming together as a communities, visiting the sick in hospitals, helping one another and community relationships, those things are good and must go on.

But, there are things that we also need to grow in Pastoral Ministries, which are more of the inner issue and more dept – Biblical counseling, listening to one another’s burdens, healing the wounds of others through listening to them in person to person or as a smaller group, and praying for one another at that same moment, not a prayer request from the market place or street, but together in the listening to one another times. We prayed for one another a lot, but more of that what is important is that we really knows and listen to their hearts for the healings of people’s wounds and then prayed for one another, in that way they can be more useful again for the works to which God has called them and to serve the Lord, even though complete healings for all things might not be possible at once. And it is the process to be done in the midst of our workings for God.

As we Work and serve, doing the job and also at the mean time the Pastoral Counselings are important that people can be more useful for the works of God, and that is important. We cannot give everything only to counseling others and healing their wounds, at the same time we cannot neglect to bring healing to the wounds of others on the process of their serving the Lord.

But if the Body of Christ is Big enough, there will be much work and many pastoral counseling centers are needed for the Body of Christ that work in full times, they are not just for drug addicts and prostitutes and so on, but even for pastors themselves, servants of God, business people, Mummy working tired at home and all types of people. They are really one Mission that are needed. Listening to one another and bring healing to the wounds of one another.

Pastoral Ministries are also useful after a long works of Missions or works, at the same time during the works and serving.
People can get burned out and they need a Pastoral care counseling to get back to work, at that moment they also need some rest that they can start their works again with more strength. Or, in the midst of missions and works, providing for pastoral care counselings are one useful things.

If Pastoral Ministries are not functioning well or are not there, in a team, in a ministry, or in the Body of Christ, especially in Big Ministries or tiring works and missions, then there are possibilities for more burn outs, strive, broken and tired. The characters of the relations of one another will be more rough, like sheep without Shepherd.

When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. (Mark 6:34).

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were Harassed and Helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. (Matt 9:36).

In most cases, We are also to confront public things in public for the purpose that others wouldn’t do, and personal things in personal. Relationship is always one of the important key and is to be build up especially to confront other, but it cannot always happen in those ways as well.

Because many of the Northeast Indians have much racism feelings, they might not like this, but in the Kingdom of God, racism feelings need to die. Even Mizo’s of Mizoram thought that they do not have a racism feelings, but they have much racism feelings, those things need to DIE from their attitudes and hearts. Because in the Kingdom of God there is no racism. Culturally this is one thing i really admired the Americans, they usually have so much less racism compared to many parts of the world, the more people are exposed to many cultures, they have less racism.

EVERY TIME A CULTURE HAVE MORE RACISM FEELINGS, IT WILL LOST HER HEARTS FOR THE NATIONS. SO, RACISM FEELINGS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED TO BE EXPOSED AND BE KILLED TO HAVE MORE HEARTS FOR THE NATIONS. WHEN A CULTURE HAVE MUCH RACISM, IT NEEDS TO CHECK OUT HER HEARTS FOR ADVANCING THE KINGDOM OF GOD.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10and find out what pleases the Lord. 11Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said:

    “Wake up, O sleeper,

    rise from the dead,

and Christ will shine on you.”

    (Ephesians 5:9-14)
