6 purposes of tithes

We may believe in eating pig, we may not believe in eating pig, we may believe in giving tithes, we may not believe in giving tithes, however, we need to believe in generosity.

Here are six purposes of tithes as we find in the book of Deuteronomy –

1. To revere and honor God (Deu 14:23)
2. To support the servants of God (Deu 14:29)
3. The least, the last and the lost (Deu 26:12)
4. To help the Fatherless and the motherless (Deu 26:12)
5. To help the widows in need (Deu 26:12)
6. To help those who are in need (Deu 26:12)

At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, so that the Levites, because he has no portion or inheritance among you, and the foreigners, the orphan and the widow who are in your town, shall come and eat and be satisfied. Then the LORD your God will bless you in all your work. (Deu 14:28-29)

When you have finished setting aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of tithing, then you shall give it to the Levite, to the stranger, to the orphan and to the widow, that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied. “You shall say before the LORD your God, ‘I have removed the sacred portion from my house, and also have given it to the Levite and the alien, the orphan and the widow, according to all You commanded. (Deu 26:12-13)
